Investigators say animal cruelty cases in the Steuben County have gone
up 150 percent since last year.
They said they don't know what's causing the sudden increase, but it's
draining their resources.

The Finger Lakes SPCA can only afford one full time animal cruelty
officer. He's expected to cover all of Steuben County, that's roughly
the size of the state of Rhode Island. The organization receives some
county money, but depends mainly on private donations. Right now
officials say they need to raise at least 20-thousand dollars.
